general sales manager at MDG said the Rubber Association of Canada has found number of tires ex plode each year as result of spinning In all cases the ex plosions are on drive wheel When car is pioneer publisher of the weekly Barrie Examiner in 1864 when the town had grown to nearly 3500 population The Examiner remained under Nicholson control until 1889 when Andrew Hunter later to become well known as author of two volumes of Simcoe Coun ty history purchased the bustness In 1895 Mr Hunter sold his newspaper interests to James Alexander MacLaren In 1914 IIhe Barrie Examiner and the The Market Place Wednesday January 12 1977 11 Medonte reeve rated as warden prospect HlLLSDALE Staff Now serving his second year as chairman of the county museum and archives board Reeve Ingram Amos is among leading prospects prominently mentioned for the 1977 war denship The head of Medonte town Sfllp council has avoided an nouncing himself as can didate since he feels county council members should make their own choice But Reeve Amos has had con siderable county council ex perience Before he became chairman of the museum and archives board he was chair man of the key county roads committee He has been member of county council for some 14 years and has served on most committees 119Tll WARDEN In Medonte he has been known for his efforts to hold down taxes as much as possmle consistent with good management He succeeded Dalton Jermey now chairman of the townships planning board as reeve in 1969 when he moved up from deputy The new warden to be chosen on Mondav Jan 17 Will be the 119th to hold the office since 1843 The last warden from Medon te was the same Mr Jermey who headed the county ad ministration back 12 years ago in 1964 County records show Medon te township has had eight coun ty wardens through the years of county administration pioneer postmaster of the com munity of Craighurst John Craig was the first warden from Medonte having served in 1857 His son Arthur Craig later served two terms as war den in 1886 and 1887 The third warden from Medonte was Thomas Steele although he had moved to neighboring Oro when he was elected in 1875 William Rutledge headed the county council in 1877 and James Quinn in 1882 The latter was reeve 0t Orillia at the time but had lived in Medonte after coming to this area from Ireland There was lapse of nearly 60 years before the next Medonte warden when George Barr was electedin1941 Fisher Ganton became the seventh warden from Medonte in 1957 and then Mr Jermey was made the eighth in 1964 Mr Jermey continues active in the Simcoe County ExWardens Association The community of Coldwater which once was part of Medonte has had two represen tatives elected warden since it attained village status in 1908 Charles Eplett was warden in 1923 and Ernie Miller in 1946 Along with Reeve Amos other prominently mentioned prospects for the 1977 war denship include Reeve Bill Gib bins of Innisfil Reeve Morris Darby of Tiny and
