continued from p.26 weeks and he's not well," said Kate. The year 2014 has been busy for the charity, Kate said, noting it held a golf tournament in the summer that raised $50,000. Tournament organizers committed to match another $50,000 next year, which will go to Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and McMaster Children's Hospital. Kate said the group's most recent annual Valentine's Chocolate Drive at Fortinos in Oakville raised $8,000 for SickKids. Robbie's Rainbow recently released a video with About Kids Health to prepare children for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures. First Canadian Title (FCT) emphasizes social responsibility "MRIs can be very scary for children because they're very loud and are in closed, confined spaces. We want to make sure they understand that every time they have the procedure they feel more at ease and comfortable," she said. Kate and Robbie will head to Ottawa next month to meet with Prime Minister Stephen Harper to discuss the charity and its successes. "For a 12-year-old, it's absolutely incredible. I'm 38 years old and I'm in awe that I get to meet him (Harper) alongside my son. Another great opportunity to do something with Robbie that I will remember forever," Kate said. Oakville's First Canadian Title (FCT), a title life insurance provider, received the nod for Outstanding Corporation. FCT has established numerous partnerships with organizations Canada-wide, including Habitat for Humanity, Canadian Red Cross, Canadian Cancer Society, Food for Life, Mission Services London and St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton. Wendy Rinella, FCT vice-president of corporate affairs, said social responsibility is "really important" and a high priority for FCT. "We know there are very impressive and wonderful companies engaged in corporate social responsibility, so we're really delighted to be included and recognized," said Rinella. For more than 10 years, the Hamilton branch staff have partnered with the Around the Bay Road Race to support St. Joseph's Healthcare Foundation, raising more than $150,000 for patient care and groundbreaking research. For FCT, National Philanthropy Day is "a moment we can all take to pause and recognize what others are doing and give them recognition in the community," she said. "We value corporate social responsibility and charitable giving. It is a way of encouraging others to participate as well. We see it as something that facilitates community building," said Rinella. see Parents on p.30 29 | Thursday, November 20, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com We sell vitamins, supplements, herbs for adults, kids and prenatal 20 % OFF When you enroll in EVERyThING rewards Program Open 7 Days a Week Walker's Live Demos & Free Samples: MyChelle Beauty/Skin Care Demo Thursday, Nov. 20 11:00am-2:00pm Saturday, Nov. 22 11:00am-2:00pm 289.837.3591 · Nordic Naturals Omega 3/ Sierra Sil Demo 511 MAPLE GROVE DRIVE, UNIT#11 · MAPLE GROVE VILLAGE MALL · OAKVILLE · South of QEW, East of Trafalgar, on Cornwall Rd. info@walkersvitamins.com · www.walkersvitamins.com WATCH FOR OUR FALL SALE FLYER IN TOMORROW'S PAPER 355 Iroquois Shore Road, Oakville L6H 1M3 905-845-2461 ~ Studio open 7 days a week Shop 24/7 online www.gerrielightingstudio.ca
