Smalley, who formed the anti-bullying organization Stand for the Silent with his wife and students in their town, Perkins, Okla., travels across the U.S. speaking to students about bullying. His 11-year-old son Ty committed suicide as a result of being bullied at school. The message he delivers is that every person can play a role in ending bullying. The Smalley family's story has been featured in two documentaries, Bully and The Bully Effect. Smalley will be the featured speaker at the YMCA Community Breakfast for Peace. His visit to Oakville marks just the second time he has brought his anti-bullying message to Canada. During the breakfast event, YMCA Peace Medallions and a $500 award for charitable work will be presented to an adult, youth, and group in Oakville who will be recognized for their work in building peace and a stronger community.
