Liberal Naidoo-Harris promises to work with people for Halton by Michael Gregory Metroland West Media Group 9 | Thursday, May 29, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Liberal candidate Indira Naidoo-Harris is trying again to unseat the longtime Progressive Conservative incumbent in the Halton riding. Naidoo-Harris, who ran in 2011 and has lived in the riding for almost 22 years, said she's seen local commutes grow, and providing improved transit options to Halton is a viable solution. "It does actually affect our ability to be efficient, our ability to contribute to the economy, but more importantly, it affects our family life," she said. The Liberals are proposing to fund two-way, all-day GO service along the Milton line through a $29-billion commitment to transit and transportation infrastructure over the next 10 years. "GO transit is an important way for people to move," she said. "It's also a good thing when it comes to our environment because it takes those cars off the road and it makes it an environment that is safer for all of us." Naidoo-Harris said the Liberals are propos- ing a $2.5-billion jobs and prosperity fund to spur job creation in the province. "This fund is really going to be there to take a careful look at ensuring we are supporting those sectors that need growth," NaidooHarris said. "It's about creating an Indira Nadoo-Harris environment that's actually going to be conducive to encouraging investment here in our province." Critical of the PC's plan to cut 100,000 public service jobs over the next four years, she said a Hudak government would mean tough economic times ahead. "This is going to plunge us into a recession and it's going to create an environment that's going to really affect our local business, and people's buying power," she said. Naidoo-Harris highlighted the new Milton velodrome and hospital expansions among Liberal government infrastructure commitments to the Halton riding. Naidoo-Harris said she's also been working personally to help Milton be the site of one of three satellite post-secondary campuses being looked at by the Province. "I think these things are going to create a synergy that's going to really lead to some very exciting things happening in Halton," she said. As the "voice on the ground," Naidoo-Harris said, "It's not always about standing outside and yelling for things; it's about meeting with people, having conversations, building a rapport."
