Wearing Team Canada shirts, as did all Canadian teams at the competition, the Rangers won all five of their games against American opponents by a combined score of 16-1. Oakville defeated the Cleveland Barons 2-1 to open the tournament, then posted shutout wins over Victory Honda (3-0), Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks (5-0), Chicago Fury (2-0) and Victory Honda (4-0). The latter win over Victory Honda came in the championship game. Members of the Rangers team are Ryan Abraham, Sam Ostafin, Jack Natyshak, Nicholas Howden, Pierce Rowan, Josh Bloom, Luke Cosentino, Calum Chau, Justin Marmen, Blake Schriver, Kevin Henstock, Joel Zarowny, Spencer Borg, Justin Legault, Drew Fisher, Aaron Maddock and Noah Pak. The team is coached by Peter Natyshak and Jim Brezina, and Daniel Pickett is the trainer. Jennifer MacAskill, Olivia Atkinson and Christina Putigna scored goals to give Oakville a 3-0 lead. Daniela Paniccia preserved a shutout until midway through the third period, when Burlington notched a shorthanded goal. Lauren Patterson contributed a pair of assists for the Hornets, who are now 7-6-3 on the season. The game ended tensely with four doubleminor penalties for head contact (two per team) handed out in the final two minutes. Oakville, which also defeated the Barracudas 6-3 in Burlington Dec. 6, will be home to the Whitby Wolves tonight (Friday) for an 8:30 p.m. start at Joshua's Creek. The Hornets then visit the Durham West Lightning tomorrow (Saturday). The Golden Eagles and four other bantam white teams moved on to the third period of the Storm The Centre contest after their age division received more online votes than five midget-aged clubs. The next step for the Golden Eagles is the Under Armour Skills Gauntlet, scheduled for today (Friday) at the MasterCard Centre for Hockey Excellence. Teams will compete in five events (fastest skater, fastest goalie, puck control, accuracy shooting and breakaways), with the top two squads earning a right to play at the Air Canada Centre Jan. 6. That game will be streamed live online for at-home fans and players will be asked questions during a post-game press conference.
