www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, November 1, 2013 | 12 T Elves meeting for Santa Claus Parade Nov. 7 at Town Hall here is nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer and each year residents of Oakville, both young and not so young, demonstrate the heart of our community is strong by volunteering to assist in the Oakville Santa Claus Parade. The parade demonstrates the spirit of community. Nestled at the heart of it are the numerous volunteers who give their time each year to bring this important tradition to Oakville. The parade itself is organized and run by a dedicated group of volunteers whose tireless efforts begin early in the spring and culminates each year on parade day. "Volunteers make the parade possible," said Pam Damoff, Oakville Santa Claus Parade chair. "Without the people who walk the route as costumed characters and their handlers, or assist with parade marshalling and traffic logistics, parade day would simply not happen. Our volunteers ensure a successful event every year." A meeting for all parade volunteers will take place on Thursday, Nov. 7 at Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Rd., in the south atrium. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. Questions about volunteering can be directed to volunteers@ oakvillesantaclausparade.ca. It's never too late to be a part of this wonderful community tradition. The Santa Claus Parade is always looking for volunteers to assist on parade day to ensure everything runs smoothly -- information about the various opportunities can be at www.oakvillesantaclausparade.ca. Parade volunteers must be at least 14 years old. High school students will be eligible to receive volunteer hours for their participation. There is always a need for additional adult volunteers to assist with marshalling and logistics -- especially those willing to help man traffic barricades with assistance from police to ensure the safe flow of traffic during the event. Celebrating its 65th anniversary this year, the Oakville Santa Claus Parade is a cherished tradition in our town. The 2013 parade takes place Saturday, Nov. 16, beginning at 9 a.m. at Lakeshore Road and Reynolds Street, going west on Lakeshore to Kerr Street, north on Kerr and ending at Kerr and Stewart streets.
