Oakville defeated arch-rival Dundas twice and Erindale once to emerge as winners in their round-robir. tournament. In the opener, Oakville needed extra innings to pull out a 1-0 victory over Dundas. In the 8th, Dave Hyatt plated the winning run with a base hit that scored Eddie Skette. "It always seems to be between us and Dundas," said coach Augie Bonanno. "They are a very formidable opponent and both teams played well right to the end." ® Ontario Ontario Government Notice Ministry of Transportation NOTICE OF STUDY COMPLETION Highway 407 West - Dundas Street West Carpool Parking Lot Appleby Line Carpool Parking Lot Bronte Road Carpool Parking Lot Trafalgar Road Carpool Parking Lot THE STUDY: The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has completed the Class Environmental Assessment and Prelimmary Design Study for the construction and operation of four carpool lots on Highway 407 West. Strong pitching by Tyler Chuddy and catching by Brad Leeming supported a strong offensive attack, giving the locals a 12-0 victory in five innings. "We just outplayed them every step of the way," said assistant coach Rich Stokes. "They tried hard, but we were ready for them every time they made a move." The championship game saw Oakville in a rematch with Dundas. In perhaps the most exciting game of the series, Oakville won another one-run, extra inning nailbitcr, 9/' N% s B * Btfl (ft jh-jSv ||j MA jjm j 5-4. Steve Mills and Trevor Jones shared the pitching duties, while outstanding play by Michael Bonanno and Ryan Reiter were keys to the win. "Everyone played amazing," said coach Bonanno. "But Trevor Jones stood out with some amazing plays at third base and first class pitching that had Dundas guessing till the bitter end." Added assistant coach Stokes: "We are champs, and we deserved to win. We had the best defence of all the teams we faced." The team, which begins it's tournament in Ottawa tomorrow (Thursday), is coached by Augie Bonanno and Rich Stokes. ... and so does the senior team The Oakville Little League senior all-star team has advanced to the provincial championships in Ottawa. Coached by Mel Swinton and Ted Hayes, the Oakville seniors won the regional championship with a convincing 11-1 win over Ancaster. The game featured fine pitching and timely hitting. Oakville advanced to Sunday’s championship final with successive wins over Glanbrook and Ancaster. Team players are Stephen Bolychuk, Parker Green, John Johannsen, Chris Hayes, Jamie Logan, Stefan Mandic, Ryan Marshall, Malt Modestino, Mike Modestino. Sam Newman, Chris Reinhardt, Stephen Reinhardt, Richard Southcott and Mike Swinton. Minors split Sunday double header The schedule for the Oakville Little League minor all-star team (11 year olds) had a Sunday afternoon home game against High Park and a nightcap down the QEW against the Stoney Creek Majors (12 years). Playing High Park is always a challenge. Winning against them is something else. They are a tough out. So when the boys from the Park sent seven baiters to the plate in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead, it looked like another uphill battle. Oakville pitcher Chris Stewart, however, had other ideas. Getting into his pitching rhythm, he faced only four batters in the second, three in the third, four in the fourth. He gave up a couple of hits in the fifth for High Park's second run. In the meantime, Oakville countered with two runs in the third, with Adam Davidson's double scoring Daniel Keresteci and Matt Downer, who had both walked. Sergio Lujan's single scored Stewart with what turned out to be the winning run. So it was a 3-2 win for Stewart, and a 1-2-3 save for Alden Black in the sixth inning. And as manager/coach Dave Downer put it, "most encouraging for the future." So it was on to Stoney Creek for the night cap against their major team (12-year-olds). Earlier, Oakville had battled them to a 0-0 draw. With Adam Davidson (5K's) pitching strongly in the early going, it was 0-0 after three innings. The Creek broke through for two runs in the fourth for a 2-0 lead, and despite Oakville loading the bases in the fifth with none out, the Creek pitching settled down, allowing no runs for the 2-0 win. On the positive side for the Oakville Minors, Chris Stewart’s two hits, and two successive 'all-star' catches in centre field, along with hits by Ryan Mallough, Davidson and Downer, were the highlights for the Oakville side. North Mississsauga all-star tournament winners The Oakville Devils U-10 girls all-star soccer team, sponsored by PPG, remain undefeated following their championship win at the 10th annual North Mississauga Inter-District all-star tournament. Oakville won the championship game 1-0 over host North Mississauga on a goal by Katarina Kapusin, capitalizing on a nice through ball from Megan French. The Devils hung on thanks to Stephanie MacNeill’s second half shutout and celebrated their second tournament victory in two attempts. Both Oakville and North Mississauga finished the preliminary round with identical records of a win and two ties, as did Brampton. Brampton, however, were sent packing after the tie breaking rules were invoked. Oakville opened with a 5-0 win over Erin Mills Eagles. Goals were scored by Emilie Clarke (2), Laura Pendlebury, Christine Meissner and Katarina Kapusin. Next was the championship game prequel with Oakville and North Mississauga drawing 3-3. Megan French salvaged the draw on a fantastic shot from the edge of the box just before time. Moments earlier, North Mississauga had taken a 3-2 lead on a goal which injured goalie Stephanie MacNeill. She was replaced by Monica Maher. Oakville had earlier built leads of 1-0 and 2-1 on goals by Jennifer O’Brien and Katarina Kapusin. Oakville gave up a last second penalty shot to Brampton in their third round robin game and had to settle for a 1-1 draw. Emilie Clarke scored Oakville’s lone goal. â-  ....................................................................................... u * - A nv i7iAir f â- - J .± -- â- if f 1 SLOTS AT THE TRACK Mohawk Racetrack Slots features 750 slot machines ranging from 25^ to $5.
