www.miltonchamb~ MILTON President's Message Melissa Coulson, Chamber President 1 had the opportunity to attend the Ontario Chamber of Commerce Annual General Meeting in Toronto at the beginning of May which was a fascinating conference for me. The primary purpose of this meeting is to set policies for the upcoming year as provided by Chambers from around the region and to honour Chambers across Ontario for their accomplishments over the year. One of the highlights of the weekend for me was to watch Sandy Martin be honoured with the Burnie Gillespie award. This particular award is highly regarded amongst the chambers as it is the premier Ontario Chamber of Commerce Annual award. It was for lier leadership, dedication, mentoring and volunteerlsm that she received this award. For almost 20 years, Sandy has been our Executive Director and she has quite simply, done a great job. She has over seen the greatest growth period known to the Milton Chamber. With lier guidance and leadership, the Cliamber bas more than doubled its membership, staff and significantly increased the quantity and quality of eveey Chamber funiction held in Milton. Her nomination was supported by numerous individuals across Milton and Halton region who have attested to the true dedication of lier work and mentorship. She volunteers within the community serving on a i number of local committees including the Friends of Milton Hospital Committee. Anyone who lias had the opportunity to work witli Sandy 0. knows that she truly is committed to the Chamber and the membership. President and CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, Len Crispinio explained that "Leading a cliamber requires a strong commitmnent to the Avancement and economic prosperity of the community, b ut the Gillespie Award recognizes an individual wlio, like the award's namesae, goes well beyond the day-to-day." An award well deserved byan executive director wlio continually goes above and beyond for the membership and the community. If you mun into Sandy, lie sure to congratulate lier on lier achievement.
