Metroland Newspapers Carguide Magazine Recent research at insurance.com, a U.S. onhine auto insurance site, has answered the age old question of who is the better drive, men or women. "Women are the better dnivers," said Rob Kiapper, insurance.com CEO. "To soive the mystery, we took a look at more thars seven million drivers to determine whi h gender reported one or more violaaions when requesting comparison quotes. Turns out men report more, almost across the board, regard- less of age or education level. " Percentage differences were very close, suggesting there's more equality among drivers than popular belief mtght sug- gest. Totaled, 31 per cent of female drivers reported one or more violations, compared with 33 perent of males. Things change, though, when we're taiking about married and uninarried peopie. Mamed females report one or more violations more often than manied maies (32 per cent to, 28 per cent), while single maies report more violations than sin- gle femnales (36 per cent to 31 per cent). When it cornes to, violation types, maies collected more DWIs (drive while intoxicated), while females were more often ticketed for speeding - until you get to higher over-the-limit speeds. where maies score high- er. Which is fortunate, since maies are more likely to buckle their seatheits than their femnale counterparts. "Bottom line, safe drivers are safe drivers," said Klapper. "And every driver will want to keep in mind that an accident could raîse your insurance rate. "The chance of a rate increase is more hikely based on factors such as accident severity, if you',re at fault, the value of your insur- ance dlaim, type of violation, and if the accident appears on your motor vehicle or comprehensive loss underwritingecag report.
