Applicants are also being sought to fill Regional appointments to the Royal Botanical Gardens Board of Directors. These positions are for a term that coincides with the current term of Regional Council, ending on November 30, 2010. Halton Region Accessibility Advisory Committee Purpose: To advise Regional Council on accessibility related issues. Pursuant to the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001 and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 this Committee provides advice on the preparation, implementation and effectiveness of an annual accessibility plan that addresses the identification, removal and prevention of barriers to people with disabilities. Members Needed: 10 citizens-at-large Individuals with disabilities and family members of individuals with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply. The Committee is responsible for developing a community vision and integrated strategy regarding housing in Halton. Members Needed: 1 citizen-at-large from Halton Hills Meetings: Third Wednesday of each month from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Contact: Sally Pincock, Housing Initiatives Coordinator, 905-825-6000 ext. 4447 Joint Municipal/Regional Waste Management Advisory Committee Purpose: To advise and assist Regional Council and the Councils of the Region's four Local Municipalities on activities and programs that should be implemented to promote the reduction, reuse and recycling of solid waste, together with plans and programs for the disposal of remaining materials to minimize waste going to the landfill site. Members Needed: 1 to 3 citizens-at-large, including one from north Halton Meetings: Monthly, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Contact: John Watson, Waste Diversion Education Co-ordinator, 905-825-6000, ext. 7484 Royal Botanical Gardens Board of Directors Purpose: The Royal Botanical Gardens, a registered charitable organization, is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors who ensure that the Gardens fulfills its legislated mandate and that its mission, policies and strategies are appropriate and current. The Board also ensures financial responsibility and approves the Gardens' annual budget. Halton Region appoints several representatives to the Board of Directors.
