A10- The Canadian Champiôn, Tuesday, April 29, 2008 you liraryUE LESLIE FUCH Chief Librarian I* suspect it is safe to say that we are at l ast having the spring mauy of us have been huugeriug for since we were deep in the grip of winter. It's hard to believe that was only a few short weeks ago. As my garden returns to life,*with plants, weeds and weed-like plants (Star of Bethlehem! Oh my!) jockeying for position, it is wonderful to he outside, tending to the garden, listening to the busy birds and the laugbtei and play of neighbourhood children eujoying being outside. very early April work hegan at the site: aud you can already hegin t0 sec some of the shape. Last Friday, the concrete footings along the norîh wsll started to he poured. When I stopped by today (Tuesday, April 22) ail the north wall footings had heen poured, and work on the other footings will hegin in a few days. It bas been fascinating to sec the project heginning to really take shape, and I can't wait until we are able to open our doors. Talk to you in May! Leslie Fitch Chief Librarian Being outside is a true joy of this time of year. If you are looking for ideas about how to better enjoy your time outside, why not corne by the library for somne investigation of thse different resources we have avaîlable: from flshing to hikîng, from boating to birding, sud everthing in betweeu (iucîuding the simple pleasure of tlying a kite). Perhaps you simply want to explore your town and your neighhourhood? Why not stop by the Milton Public Library and borrow one of the pedometers we started circulating in September? Using one is a great w -ay to remind yourself to he active. I often wear onse at work (I have one strapped on right now: 4,607 so far for the day [at least another 6 thousand to go]) as a reminder to walk when I can. As you may remember, you can horrow a 'ped' for three weeks, and wr have many available for use. When you do corne hy the library, try to rememher to take a moment to admire the gorgeous spring gardens. They were designed and are maiutained wiîh the knowledge, skill aud enthusiasm of the Milton and District Horticultural Society. Whiîe I think the gardeus are always beautiful, they are particularly lovely in the spring. Aud if you corne hy soon enough, our magnolia may still he in bloom, too. In Lihrary Branch Construction news, l'm thrilled to report of two major achievemrents. lu laite March, the Town was advised that the Municipal Infrastructure tuvestmient Initiative grant application had heen successful lover a nmillion dollars to offset ils costs>.
