Man arrested in connection with disturbinq orcurrenres Police made an arrest after a local family was the subject of a series of bizarre and disturbing incidents Tuesday and Wednesday It started when the Guelph Line residents had some strange notes posted on their mailbox Tuesday; some had money taped to them, and they made no sense to the residents, pohce said. The next day, they found another nonsensical note in their barn and saw some of their equipment had been tampered with. More notes appeared on their mailbox, this time contain- ing sexual references, causing the residents ta feel threatened, police said. The notes also made reference to two of the family members. In addition, the homeowners observed a suspicious truck parked near their driveway at two separate times that after- noon; they obtained the licence plate number and called police. Wednesday at about 4 p.m., police arrested an Eden Mills man at his home. The 58-year-old has been charged with criminal harass- ment and break and enter. Teen charged in fire A 15-year-old Milton boy PoliceBlotter was charged with arson in con- nection with a dumpster fire at Wl. Dick School on Highside Drive Monday Police said the fire depart- ment responded to the blaze at about 2:30 a.m. Two youths hid in a nearby backyard and then ran from police. They were located at Steeles Avenue and Ontario Street shortly after. They were both arrested, but a 17-year-old male was released. In addition to arson, the 15- year-old was also charged with failing to comply with an under- taking. Cash stolen in break-in About $3,000 in cash was stolen during a break-in at Halton Crushed Stone quany on Sixth Line last weekend. Police said an unknown sus- pect threw a rock through a glass door to gain entry some- time between last Friday and Monday and took the money from the cash box. The quarry had been closed for the weekend. Bank cards stolen A resident had his credit and debit cards stolen from his Broadway Avenue home last Friday. Police said the resident was working on his bouse and was going back and forth from bis garage to his backyard between 10:30 and 11:30 p.m. At some point between those times, an unknown suspect entered the house through the unlocked rear door and took the cards from his wallet. The cards were cancelled before they could be used by the suspect. Car damaged A car parked on Woodward Avenue was damaged early Sunday morning. Police said the owner awoke to find the passenger side win- dow smashed by a brick that was sitting on the driver's seat of the 1989 Cadillac. The damage is pegged at $400. Bike swiped A mountain bike was stolen from in front of Milton Public Library on Bruce Street Tuesday afternoon. These four areas make up the Lake Erie Source Protection Region. Proposed committee composition and opportunity for public comment The committee will have a chair (appointed by the Minister of the Environment) and 21 members divided into three groups: U Seven members representing municipal govermments " Seven members representing agricultural, commercial or industrial sectors, including small business. It is proposed that three seats be for agriculture, three for commercial and industrial businesses (including small business) and one for the aggregate industry " Seven other members representing the environmental, health and other interests of the general public. It is proposed that there be seats for six individuals representing the public interest and one seat for the Elgin Area Primary Water Supply System Joint Board of Management. In addition, there are a total of three members to be selected jointly by the band councils of the two First Nations in the Lake Erie Region: the Six Nations of the Grand River and the Mississaugas of the New Credit. A document providing more details on the proposed composition of the committee is available at www.sourcewater.ca, at the head offices of the four conservation authorities or at municipal offices in the Lake Erie Region. The deadline to submit comments on the proposed composition of the committee is Sept. 3, 2007.
