A14 - The Canadian Champion, Tuesday, December 26, 2006 On-street parking requests can be done on-une Local residents can now submit their requests for on-street parking on the Town's Web site. Forms have been made available at www.milton.ca for the parking considera- tions, which are designed to accommodate residents with special circumstances that require parking in excess of three hours in areas where parking is normally allowed on the street. These can include visits from out- of-town guests, driveway repairs or a special function. "Over the holidays, we can usually expect an increase in cars parked on residential streets," said Town Director of Engineering Services Paul Cripps. "Its important for resi- dents to make plans in advance to accom- modate the parking needs of their guests, and the Town is now providing residents with another option for making these arrangements." On-line parking considerations are processed immediately by filling out the on- line form, which can be done 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Requests can also be made by phone dur- ing business hours by calling the Town's Engineering Services department at (905) 878-7252, ext. 2530. After hours, requests can also be made on the Town's voice mail system, but considera- tions can only be granted for one night and if all the required information is provided. This includes the homeowner's name, street address of where the vehicle will be parked and vehicle license plate number. The Town, along with many other sur- rounding municipalities, provides for maxi- mum three-hour parking to reduce the num- ber and length of time that vehicles are parked on the street and to allow for road maintenance, waste collection and snow clearing activities. "During a snow storm, residents are asked to move their vehicles off the street to facilitate snow clearing operations, even if parking consideration has been granted," said Cripps. Parking considerations only provide for parking in the three-hour area and don't exempt people from parking in a prohibited area, facing the wrong direction or blocking a fire hydrant. A maximum of 18 parking consideration days will be granted for each license plate per calendar year. Anyone who applies for a parking consid- eration and still receives a parking infraction notice should contact parking control at the aforementioned number to have it revoked.
