Tbe pre-trial - wbich is a meeting beld to bam me r out legal issues before trial - will take place at Superior Court of justice in Newmarket Thursday Tbe return date was set August 24. Frank Basso and bis wife, Catherine, were cbarged wvitb a total of 16 and 10 counits respectively of' fraud over $5,000, conspiracy to commit fraud, uttening a forged document, obtaining money by a forged document and obtaining credit by false pretence along witb tbree other non-Milton residents. The cbarges relate to two incidents in 2001 and 2002 in wbicb fraudulent mortgages were arranged on bouses unbeknownst to tbe owners - rela- tives of tbc suspects - to obtain money. York Regional Police allege $1.7 mil- lion was pocketed by the five suspects from a total of tbree incidents in Toronto and Vaughan, one in wbicb no charges were laid against the Milton couple.
