Region could, feasibly, create pesticide bylaw By Melanie Hennessey CANADIAN CHAMPION STAFF The verdict is in - the Region could likely create a Halton-wîde pesticide bylaw if it wanted to. The word came from the Regions legal staff duning the health and social services committee meeting Thursday, when the pesticide issue was once again discussed but no decisions were made. Recently, a group of residents pushed the Region to bning in a bylaw that would restnict the cosmetic use of pesticides, but were told that Halton bas decided it's a malter best dealt with at the local level. But Regional Cbairman Joyce Savoline pointed out that wben tbe matter was previously discussed, i was tbe -political will" to deal witb pesti- cides ai tbe local level. Wbile Halton Hilîs Councillor Clark Somerville said bie agrees tbe matter is best served by eacb local council, Burlington Councillor Rick Craven countered that thse pesticide legislation sbould be created by thse provincial government.
