Ward 4 Councillor Wendy Schau kicked off the childcare discussion, ask- ing that for future budgets, the Conservatives rethink backîng out of the agreement. "The best învestments we can make are investments in chîl- dren," she said. 1 believe we should follow the agreement that was made." She noted the women she knows who work were very happy when the childcare agreement was ortginally made. Turner said the Conservative philos- ophy is that the best people to bring up children are parents. The MP pointed out nobody bas ever proposed daycare for every child, and only eigho 80 10 per cent of kida in Halton would find their way into the childcare spaces. He hîghlighted the chiîdcare allo\vance the Conservatives plan o put in place that will see famnilies receive $1,.200 per year for each child under six. -What we've said is ail par- ents gel a benefît,' Turner noted.
