As of Monday, Halton District School Board (HDSB) elementary teachers - rep- resented by the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (EFTO-Halton) - imposed more sanctions in addition to those that came into effect March 2 1, just after March Break. As listed on the HDSB Web site, these new sanctions include: *Not attending or providing any profes- sional development, workshops or in-serv- ice sessions occurring outside the instruc- tional day. * Not participating in any school-wide fundraising activities such as cookie sales, cheese orders, hot lunch days, tuck shops or fun fairs. * Not providing information technology support, unlets it's part of a regularly- scheduled assignmient. *Not participating in First Steps' or 'PM Benchmarks' (data collection) initiatives. e Not acting an 'teacher in charge' or 'act- ing administrative teacher.' * Not participating in any interviews S t involving hiring staff. Sanctions that were put in place last month include teachers flot attending staff or school comnsittee meetings, performing any adminiistrative functions or organizing any new field trips. HDSB Executive Officer of Human Resources Dawn Beckett-Morton said the board is continuing to have regular discus- sions with elementary sehool principals to monitor the potential impacts of the sanc- tions. The board will meet with principals Tuesday to further aasess the situation. "I thinc we're ail concemed and keeping an eye on the saiety of students," she said. While it was earlier thought field trips could be cancelled if student supervision and subsequently student safety became an issue, Ms Beckett-Morton said this haan't happened yet.
