Know the Facts" on Monday, September 29th at 7:00 p.m. at the Milton Seniors' Centre. The seminar is being presented by Halton Healtbcare Services - MDH site, and Tbe Tbyroid Foundation of Canada. In Canada tbyroid disorders are estimnated to affect one in twenty. Most thyroid disorders are 5-7 times more common in women. There are many types of tby- roid disease, bowever, the main conditions present in most thyroid ilînesses are bypothyroidism (tbyroid under-activity) and hypertbyroidism (thyroid over- activity). Thyroid disorders for the most part are treatable; however, untreat- ed tbyroid disease can produce serious resuits in other parts of the body. Individuals wbo bave been diagnosed witb thyroid disease and 'their families will leamn effective management strasegies. If you suspect that you might have a thyroid disorder, you will obtain a better understanding of the disease. Dr. Gavino Perez, an Associate Professor and Staff Intcmnist at McMaster Medical Centre, will discusa signs and symptoms, diagnosis, types of thyroid disease, and treatment options. Ted Hawkins, nomninated as incoming national president for tbe Thyroid Foundation of Canada, will speak on the resources and educa- tional literature of the Foundation that are available to the public. Police said the person rcsisted arrest and a second person began interféring. The incident eventually escalated to include about 500 people- mostly youths. Police said sbey were pclted with rocks, boules, beer cans and pieces of wood by the crowd, and retaliat- ed witb rubber bullets and water hoses. Superintendent Kingston said officers have been at high schools this week informing students of their zero tolerance policy for liquor and trespassing incidents.
