8-The Canadian Champion, Friday, September 27, 2002 HIGH SCIIOOL RFPORT BISHOP REDINO HIGH SCHOOL Watch for the Royal Report Coming Soon! "MUSTANG MESSENGER" Megan Cavon Steph Creighton MILTON DISTRICT HIG SCIOOL Welcome back! It seems that all too soon summer has corne and gone and we're back at MDHS for another year. The homework is piling up, but so are the special events, which are sure to make this year another great one at MD. Although the year has just begun, our senior students are already thinking about next year and post secondary options. This year marks the graduation of the double cohort. It is also the first year that the Ontario University Fair will be running on a Friday. We are taking a busload of students down to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on Friday. If you are interested and cannot make it with us the fair will be open to the public al weekend. On a lighter note, we had beautiful weather on Tuesday for our outdoor grade nine day and it was a huge success! We hope that all the grade nines had a good time and will enjoy the rest of their stay at MDHS. We have many other new additions to our school as well, in all grades, not just nine. Prefects will be holding a special wel- corne breakfast next Wednesday for al of our new students. For anyone who is a recent addition to the school, you will soon receive an invitation to start off your day, not to mention your year, with some bagels and fruit. Now for the latest updates from the Mustang's sports central. We heard thai congratulations are in order for the players of the sen- ior football team. They pounded the Blakelock Tigers at MD last Friday with a score of 15 to 0! Today at three o'clock they tackled Lester B. Pearson on the MD field. Mr. Vella in particular must be fairly anxious about the outcome of that game. Mr. Vella works in Humanities at MDHS, but his son is the lead quarterback for Pearson. Talk about tangled loyalties. In other football news, the juniors unfortunately lost their first game of the seaon 36 to 0, to Holy Trinity of Oakville. That was on Monday the 23rd and the results will be in next week's column about how they fared in their game yesterday. There are a few other teams at Milton District besides football, though. In an exciting first at MDHS there is now a girl's hockey team. The staff advisor for this is Ms. Gregory and the three coach- es are Jay Price, Ryan Wildfang and Taylor Coulombe. Taylor is also part of the boy's hockey team, who he says are well into dry land training. This involves running, sit-ups and bench work in an effort to be in top shape for this hockey season. Each season has its own sport, but every time a Milton Mustang gets on a field, on a track or in a pool, they'll rear up and do "nothing but the best!" That's al for this week. Enjoy the weekend and rest up. There is sure to be more events to corne (Not to mention homework). DATEMINE BRUR Y Julianna Clarke Sara Grimbly Jordan Lumb Back to school, back to school, to prove to Dad I'm nfot a fool. Got all my books, no more summer vacation...hey...wait a second, what's my locker combi- nation? Hey everybody! Welcome once again to Drury's space. The smiling faces pictured above are going to be com- ing into your homes every week, so please let us intro- duce ourselves....With the dark hair, is the stunning Julianna Clarke. The blonde gal is none other than Sara Grimbly. And the tough looking fellow is Jordan Lumb. We are all veteran students here at Drury, in our OAC year; OAC being and acronym for Obviously Always Cool. Everyone is back in school, slipping back into old rou- tines; preparing for another year of boredom. But this is not the truth at Drury; we have started the year off with a bang. To begin with, the first big Drury event this year was the largely successful Grade Nine Day, wherein senior students (dressed up as superheroes) welcomed nervous niners into the E.C. Drury family. Of course, the day included many water games, which offered refreshment from the late summer heat. The annual Grey Shirt Training Camp recruited future athletes, and prepared them for another year of Spartan athletic vic- tory. Speaking of victories, Drury's field hockey tour- nament on Friday the 13th proved that our athletes do not succumb to superstition; the girls triumphed, steal- ing second place. Congratulations to all the girls, and big thanks to all of the senior players who helped make this victory possible. Another team already busy is the cross country team, which has been lacing up their cross trainers, and practicing regularly to condition themselves for upcoming competitions. And so now we leave you with the promise that this school year is going to be full of new ideas and rich opportunities, and we are going to be right here all year long to give you our perspective on future memories in the making. 1 1 I
