Six players, four of whom took provincial championship hon- ours a couple of years ago, set out to establish a new world record for moat bowls in a 24-hour period. They didn't just break the old benchmark, they absolutely annihilated it. Throwing more than three bowls a minute for an avcrage of 200 bowls per hour, the local contingent added 1,488 bowls to the pre- vious standard - for a new total of 4,832. The old record of 209 ends in a day was also toppled - as the group played 302 during their marathon competition, which ended with Team Stadnyk eclipsing Team Sandford 277-273 at 6 p.m. last Friday. Joinmng Ryan Stadnyk were brother Chris and Ken Armstrong whi le Dave Anderson and Jack O'Donnell were part of Mark Sandford's squad. That was my last 24 hours of anything," quipped Armstrong. "Honestly though, it was really cool (breaking the record) and a lot of fun." Although bypassing the bowls record with a full eight hours to go at 10 a.m. last Friday, the local six-pack maintained its gruel- ing pace amid sweltering conditions to set a new benchmark that'll be - to say the very least - difficult to beat. 'he amount of lawn bowling they tumed in was the equivalent of roughly seven toumaments. Competition between the two teams was juat as lierce as the race to become new world record holders. 'he game was dead- locked withjust minutes remaining when Chris Stadnyk nailed the target to pull out the victory. A Teamn Stadnyk five-ender with about a haîf-hour to play also aided in the comeback win. Milton District Hospital was also a big winner as a result of the record-breaking event. More than $5,000 was raised for the hospital by local individu- aIs and businesses wbo came out to test their bowling skills in exhibition play prior to the record-setting campaign. tLClarke'"s l=! www.clarkesgoif.com MORE THAN JUST A -I WE CAM PRO VIDE YOUR COMPANY WITH CU riaHATSE * JACKETS E - e TRACK SUITS 18 Thompson Rd.
