A dozen or more steam engines, about 200 tractors and scores of antique cars and trucks wilI pull into Milton Fair Grounds Labour Day weekend, September 3-6. John Deere is the feature manufacturer of the year. Enthusiasts fromn ail over Ontario and parts of the United States are expected to hnm out for the exhibition, which bas grown to be one of the largest in Canada. But at one time, it was possible that the impressive looking machines would be loat forever. "Back in the '60' s there was a great concem -that if people didn't start preserving the old machines there wouldn't be any of them left," said Braci Clements, publicity director for Steam-Era. "They'd be concemed that this stuif was rusting and then going off to the scrap yard." Instead, the past is celebrated as the Iovingly restored machines roar into, action at the 39th annual exhibition. Twice daily, the big beasts parade around the quarter mile track at the Fair Grounds. They also take part in antique tractor pulls, threshing competi- tions and saw and shingle milI demonstrations. 'That you can't see in a museum," pointed out Mr. Ciernients. se.
