In faci tbey could beat Thombill jusi once out of three basebaîl games at the Mississauga North AAA Midget Toumrament. Luck stuck with Thombill, bowever, as they went on to win the titie while the Red Sox bowed oui in the consolation finals. A previously stalwart Milton defence bast uts rhythm. Guelph, one of the better major age teams in the western loop, beat tbe Sox 12- 4 in that sbowdown. Milton started off strongly, postiflg a 3-I record for second place standing in the round robin portion of play. Wben things got sticky later on as tbe defence faiered, dropping two gamea meant that the Sox fin- isbed the toumament ai 3-3. Manager Larry Black is quietly confident despite the defensive lapse. "This is a îeam of eigbt majors and six minors (in age grouping) playing good quality basebaîl against mostîy major midget teams. We are slowly starting 10 gel and by the (league) playoffs and OBAs (provincial playdowns) we will be contenders." Milton faced tougb Tbornbill in game one and the Red Sox were doubled 6-3. Milton put together an outstanding defensive effort for tbis one. Of particular note was a Konkle to Perrott double play as Konkle made a deep catch in rigbt field and relayed îo Perrott on third for tbe back end. Thombhill was not to be victimized twice, bowever, as tbey thumped Milton Il - 1 in the semitinal rematcb. Tbe bottom felI oui for Miltons in this one, Black indi- cated. Kevin Cooper gamely sîarted for Milton, but be hasn't had a lot of piiching time s0 far tbis season and the defence wasn't belping mucb, wiih errors in buncbes after recording only four tbrough tbe round robin. In Milton's finaI game, tbe defence was again con- spicuously absent and Perroni sbouldered the loss. He gamely performed at tbe plate, however, hitîing îwo bornera ansd driving in two baserunners.
