Dateline Drury - March 26, 1999 by Jessica Wellstead and Katie Murzin We would like to take this opportunity to welcome back both you, the reader, and the staff and students of E.C. Drury who returned to school this week after a much needed March Break vacation! If you hadn't noticed, Dateline Drury was on hiatus last week but we assure you that we, along with the rest of the E.C. Drury family, are back and ready for an exciting spring season which, as long as Mother Nature keeps up her end of the bargain, promises to be great! E.C. Drury's sports program is getting back in the swing of things with the first of the spring sports starting up this week. Thus far, meetings and practices have been held for the boys' baseball team and both the girls' and boys' soccer teams. Any students interested in participating on these, or any other, spring sports teams should make a point of listening to the morning announcements to find out times and places for meeting or practicing. Fundraising at Drury is picking up right where it left off before the break as fundraising activities continue to take place for the Rose Cherry Home. In order to support the Rose Cherry Home, a hos- pice for terminally ill children, members of E.C. Drurys Student Council have been selling links to form a chain which is now hanging in the school's Locker Bay. The links, which were sold for $.50, helped the school add $55 to its running total of nearly $400 raised for the Home. In other fundraising news, we would like to report that our Great Canadian Bagel fund-raiser you heard so much about before the March Break has come to a successful end. Students at the school sold more than 7000 bagels to members of the community and we would like to thank everyone involved, especially the Great Canadian Bagel and everyone who purchased the bagels from students. As well, our thanks go out to everybody who helped support Drury's athletic program by purchasing coffee form the Great Canadian Bagel on Tuesday mornings in March. You have all helped make this year's fund-raiser a great success and E.C. Drury is very grateful for your support. In non-fundraising related news this week, the E.C. Drury School Reach team will be attending their third tournament next Tuesday, March 30. They are currently in position to obtain a playoff spot and we wish them the best of luck at this tournament and in their pursuit of the playoffs. That's it for this week. Have a great weekend and lets ail keep our fingers crossed for wonderful spring weather!
