Halton Regional Police offer the follow- ing advice to keep kids safe on October 3 1. . Children' s Halloween costumes should be bright and made of non-flammable material. Attaching reflective tape or other material to the costume helps make trick- or-treaters more visible. For added safety, have your child carry a lit flashlight. e Facial make-up is the recommended means of disguise. But if masks are womn, the eye holes should be large enough so that vision is not restricted. Costumes should also be kept short in length 10 pre- vent tripping. - Children should either be accompanied by an adult or travel together in groups while trick-or-treating. - Make certain your child trick-or-trcais on one side of the street and crosses only at corners. Children should be advised to walk on the sidewalks and stay off roads and lawns. - Halloween treats should be taken home to be inspected by parents before being eaten. - Trick-or-treating should occur in the early evening hours. - Instruct children to stand at the door of a home, not t0 enter it under any circumn- stances. Children should stay away from homes that are in total darkness. - Remember that a Block Parent home is ua safe place to go when in need of assis- tance.
