Former Halton Board of Education director Bob Williams, who stepped down earlîer this year to take on the position of a superin- tendent, ia taking an unpaid leave of absence. Director of education Dusty Papke said as part of an agreement to grant Mr. Williams a leave of absence, the former director la allowed to put in up to 20 per cent of his regular work bours. Mr. Williams was granted a one- year leave of absence by tbe board in June to commence in August. At the time, Mr. Williams said be would be doing research related to bis pursuit of a doctorate in educa- lion, as well as consultation in the WilIian wil, /l Iikcly kî,lk lic equivalent of about one day per week at the board offices on Guelph Line. He will have an office that will be used by others when he's not there, said Mr. Papke. Mr. Williams will be paid at bis superintendent'as rate. "He'll be heading up our leader- ship program, which 10 an in-ser- vice, of staff development," said Mr. Papke. "One thing we're concerned about is the demographica of OUI teaching population," said Mr. Papke. The board is worried about short- range statistica that indicate, aa Mr. Papke put it, "around the year 2000 there will be a mass exodus of teachers."
