For those who worked so hard to create the Market, it hardiy seema like it couid be 25 years since it ail began. In the past 25 years, the Farmers' Market has become a summer tradition in Milton. The Chamber is proud of the Market and ita association witb it over the past 25 yeara. Althougb the mission of the Chamber is to provide leader- sbip in promoting the weli-being of the business community of Milton, coliectiveiy, we aiso make every attempt to pro- mote the weli being of the entire community of Milton. The Farmers' Market is an excellent example of the Cbamber's efforts to satisfy botb objectives. The Farmers' Market is about more than business. A trip to the downtown core on a Saturday moming wiii confirm this to you. Every Saturday momning the street is full of cheery, eariy risers picking up fresb produce, flowers and baked gooda and enjoying the experience. The street is the social gathering spot in town when the market is on. I find it diffi- cuit to make my way from one end of the street to the other some momninga, constantly stopping to carry on a conversa- tion with an old acquaintance or someone I deal witb profes- sionaiiy but neyer bave tbe opportunity to spend time witb sociaiiy. From a business perspective, the Market is important to the vendors who show up for the market on sunny Saturdays (when I am there) as weii as the coid rainy spring and fal Saturdays. Since the Chamber moved the market to Main Street, it bas become an important element of the businesses in tbe downtown core. When you visit the Market on a Saturday morning, I wouid encourage you to spend some time to familiarize yourself with tbe businesses operating out of the downtown core. Tbe downtown core bas many great sbops that you can combine with your visit to tbe Market. Wbile you are at the market, drop by the Chambers Scboiarsbip Café, bave a coffee and experience tbe taste of back bacon on a bun. Proceeda of the Café support a sebolar- ship program establisbed by tbe Chamber wben it took over tbe café several years ago. To commemorate our 25tb anniversary of tbe market, the Chamber asked many of tbe vendors and local residents to suppiy us witb famiiy recipes and memories of the market over tbe past 25 years. Ibese recipes and memories were compiied and are an integral part of our Market Memories Cookbook. These cookbooks are availabie for sale at the Scboiarship Café any Saturday momning for $2.95. If you are a Market regular, tbank you for your support over tbe past 25 yeara. If you bave not yet experienced a Saturday momning stroli tbrougb downtown Milton, I would encourage you to find oui wby so many other Milton reai- dents value thîs unique event. See you Saturday.
