At the age of 25, Childerhose was diagnosed with diffuse panbronchiolitis (DP). The severe and rare disease causes fluid to continually build up in the lungs, similar to cystic fibrosis, and is traditionally specific to men of Asian descent living in China -- a fact that had Childerhose (a Caucasian male in Canada), his doctors and his wife Sarah Taylor stumped. "He's definitely not Asian. He even had DNA testing to see if maybe he was Asian and didn't know it," Taylor, said with a laugh. "But the way lung diseases work, for every major disease there are permutations," she explained.
