Michael Triolo posted his second shutout of the tournament as the Panthers defeated the Oakville Mustangs 3-0 in the championship game. Liam Barkla, Nathan Villar and Jason Lee scored for the Panthers. The Panthers opened the tournament with a 6-2 win over the Orillia Warriors. The Oakville squad then beat Blackburn (Ottawa) 14-0 and then clinched its spot in the final by doubling the Unionville Jets 6-3. Other members of the team are: Declan Finerty, Mason Cvetas, Theo Zych, Jacob Bokowy-Wojcik, Connor Irwin-Lewis, Tyler Pearce, Tyler Moore, Matt Lebre, Adam Gosse, Jerome Bibeau, Thai Hillyard and Jaden Cates. Nick Cvetas is head coach with Joe Triolo and Alain Bibeau serving as assistant coaches. Simon Barkla is the team trainer and Susan Cameron is the manager. HURRICANE WARNING: The Halton Hurricanes girls under-16 Black did not lose a single game in winning back-to-back tournaments. Hurricanes storm to victory at Provincial Cup The Halton Hurricanes girls under-16 Black won their second straight Ontario Volleyball Association premier tournament without dropping a single game. The Hurricanes won the GU16 Provincial Cup in Welland in November and followed it up by winning GU16 Challenge Cup in King City before Christmas. The team has been testing itself with a challenging schedule that has included adult elite and adult co-ed tournaments as they prepare for the provincial championships. The Hurricanes team includes five players from Oakville: Ateya Allen, Samantha Creighton, Sarah Williams, Sierra Hardy and Erica Treflik-Body. Other members of the team are Amanda Adoranti, Amanda Harnett, Darby Taylor, Julia Costanzo, Olivia Roscoe and Sofia Gligoric. The team is coached by Phil Peters and Nicholas Chia. Spartans win in Bradford The Oakville minor bantam white Spartans (pictured, left) edged Waterloo 3-2 to win the championship at the recent Bradford Bulldogs Blue and Gold Classic hockey tournament. Oakville finished the competition with a 3-0-1 record, outscoring its opposition 15-8. Members of the team are Adam Ashley, Christopher Avery, Brad Barrick, Andrew Collett, Zach Dera, Joshua Durbin, Luke Grandy, Dominic Johnson, Nicholas King, Darren Kocken, Mohit Kapur, Michael Merrick, Logan Pereira, Harrison Reimer, Robbie Venerus and Noah Young.
