By MIKE JOHNSTON Free Press Staff Repairs ta homes built by Grand Oaks Homes just south of Woolco on Thickson Rd. S. are proceeding but the ramn is playing havoc with the repairs, accor- ding to Public Works Director, Dick Kuwahara. "Their working out there but the weather is against themn com- pleting a lot of stuff,". said Kuwahara. Deficiencies in the new homes became public after councillor Joe Drumm called on town council ta draw on a letter of credit ta make the repairs. Drunim said the new homes and the lanhd around them looked like craters on the moon. Mfter the town threatened ta draw on the $100,000 letter, Grand Oaks Homes said they would begin the repairs. According ta Kuwahara, work that is currently underway in- cludes landscaping and sodding. "With the weather lately there is one day of ramn then it takes two or three days ta dry. With that type of weather it's hard to get ln and While giving Grand Oaks Homes the benefit of the doubt because of the weather, Kuwahara said the town is mnonitoring the repairs that are being done. "As long as work is getting done, that's fine. If they stop, we will go in and get the work done." And for the town to complete the -repairs it would mean drawing on the letter of credit, somnething town ad- ininistrator Bull Wallace hasn't ruled out. "We haven't drawn on it at this point. It's still there for our con- sideration,"' he said. Wiallace said the town would only draw on the letter of credit on the advice of the public works or planning departmients. "Vihen we feel the work is not proceeding," added Wallace. A letter of credit is irequired by the town from a developer in the event of a default of bankruptcy. As developnient proceeds the amount of the credit decreases.
