P)81, l>AGF-2 Anderson to hold their annual athietiec banquet Swirn-a- thon Daphfle Coutts was on hand this past weekend when between 67-70 Whitby Iroquois Swim Club members participated in their annual swim-a-thon. Coutts had two of her children swimming in the fund raising event. Her daughter Colleen, 10, is pictured above in the water while* son'Bobby, 7, sits by, taking a break to cheer his sister on. Esther Scott (far left) was counting lengths for her daughter Anne-Marie, 9. The fastest time turned in for the 200 length swim was achieved by David Goulding at one hour, seven minutes and 36 seconds, setting a new club record. His sister Donna placed with the second fastest time at one hour and 20 minutes. Brian McAlinden, the club's highest pledge achiever for the past three years, is being challenged for that honor this year by Richard Cryer. The event was held in effort to raise money for the Whitby Iroquois Swim Club. Merchants lose to Bowmanvi*lle Whitby Merchants just couldn't seemn to do the trick in their season opener when they dropped a gamne 7-2 to the Bowmanville Merchants last week. Whitby's pitcher John Turner was outstanding having pitched a five hit one rua first five innings of play before being yanked in favor of relief pitcher George Yates. Turner's pitching, however was spoiled by poor defensive play by the rest of the team Bowmanville took first blood in the third inning on two errors, a walk and a single. Armand Robitaille's single and successfully stolen second base produced the Whitby team's second run when John Heffer drove him home on a single. On Tuesday, June 2, 1981, Anderson Collegiate and Vocational Institute will be having their annual athletîc banquet.
