neth Mills as a friend and have seen the fruit of teaching a re cital by his pupils is something to be looked forward to This is especially true when we are interested in some of his pupils When we reached Leu- side Collegiate where the recital was to be held it was nice to see quite a number of Newmar ket people there I think one of the pleasures J that a recital by Kenneth Mills pupils always give me is the sense of surencss One feels that in all his pupils be they eight years old or of riper years that there is a foundation of tech- on which like the house built on rock a house of music can be built which will meet trie stringent requirements that ail who study seriously must meet Tunney winner at years of age of the Scholarship and now invited to give a recital at the played four numbers Chopins Fantasy Impromptu played with a brilliance which only a technique phenomenal in a power with never a touch of one of her years could compass harshness and a warmth and color which brought out the love ly and illusive melody that plays hide and seek with the fantasy Musts by very modern and very difficult was beautifully rendered its flowing swirling was very realistic and the other half of the family confessed to me that for a while he was back back among the highland hills of his boyhood watching the up from the valleys till they shrouded the landscape The Juggler was again a masterpiece of technique and tone colors The crisp beautiful ly articulated tones made me see the juggler as he performed his tricks I think everyone in the audience agreed with one remark I heard as wo left the hall If had gone on playing no one would have thought of time Little Kevin did a remarkable piece of work for an eight year old There was an Individuality about his playing an effect of really knowing ex actly what he wanted and how to get it He played Tag Church Hells and an intriguing Arrangement of London Bridge This last piece nearly threw a small boy in front of us into Either he thought Kevin playing it all wrong or ho Appreciated the puckish humor of the Retting but for a few mo ments I thought he would lit find to my horror that I left out other solo the Kab- Sonatina No I in Major which showed j that in modern music she can find a vehicle for talent equal to the beauty and appeal she brings to her audience in other works Of Mrs the third member of our Newmarket group of artists I need only My that her talent has at last found the proper atmosphere In which come lo beautiful maturity She played two Arabesques by De bussy and we wish she had play ed more I cannot begin to write of all those who took part they would not be of interest lo New market but there was a young man Russell who ap peared twice on Iho program whose interpretive talent struck all He played the Prelude and Fugue No 14 In Minor j by Bach the first movement of SonMu No of Beethoven and The Inland Spell and Largo He like has the happy faculty of music- pic ture making Mr Mills has the marvellous and one might soy unique gift of able to into his pupils personalities to develop the hidden strengths and to make his pupils bring their weakness to light where by judicious training and selfknowledge they may be eradicated or in cases become strong points in building their musical fabric- We can only hope for recital in the near future and wish Mr Mills and his pupils the success they richly deserve YOUR CHAMBER OF COMMERCE IS BUILDING BETTER COMMUNITY FIND THE DEALER AND BRAND YOU When you want buy known product heres how to find a dealer in a hurry la of
