Property On Davis Drive rV your own w w- A A if fine cut t r r When the water main was put out Park Side Drive Councillor Alex Hands at a meeting of Newmarket council it was not put there to give Clarence Allan water Only a short area had to be dug and there was no frost in the ground so that the trench was dug eas ily I would like it clearly un derstood that the work was not so that water could be brought to Clarence Allans property he added The discussion arose following receipt of a request from East GwiiHmbury council at the- April meeting that Newmar ket provide water to the Allan property on Davis Drive West The request was refused Coun cil had denied a similar request from Mr Allan at its last meet ing resent reports being twist ed continued Mr Hands when he referred to the local news papers account of the earlier dis cussions He said that it was easy for reports to be twisted so that those concerned appear ed in an unfavorable light Mr Hands said that he had hesitated with his answer when he was first asked about this matter I was asked if the water was being brought to a subdivision or private residence and replied No because we were not bringing the water there It was there already he said Let me untwist the twist or give it a further one replied if- To ion J CM yi is urgently i- 5 J to RESEARCH i A WELFARE r i r J v- i Itfa IPS K r a K i- W s r A r f I is meeting of fer to purchase had been discuss with Mr Alnsworth present Ho knew what happened took part it discussion Mr said Hie matter was referred to Mrs I dont like things being re ferred to committee because one or two members of council dont like the majoritys deci sion Mr This matter was and the majority voted Mr Beiugin I asked if the work being done on Davis Drive West by Western Excavators bad anything to do with giving wa ter to any individuals or subdi visions out of town and I was told that it didnt I drive past there every day and saw the ditch being dug day after day I contend that friendship is a very nice thing but after one is elected to coun cil one should forget friends and think in of the general good of the community said Mr At the earlier meeting Coun cillor had said that the cost of the work was approxi mately On April he told council that he had been in formed that it would cost more than that ditch across the road is not costing the town anything Clarence Allan is paying for the service replied Mr Hands Clarence Allan is paying Western Excavators and it is costing the town nothing said Mr I wonder if Mr Hands thinks I was born yester day Yes answered Mr Hands Sometimes I wonder Councillor Gladstone said that if council were to pro vide Mr Allan with water it would be normally obligated to give it to anyone else on Davis drive West or anywhere else on the of Newmarket where they could hook into the present system Wo are automatically obli gated to give waier to the subdivision if we give it to Mr A Han Mr continued It would be a betrayal of the trust of town to do that To give water to Mr Allan will in volve a large amount of water he said- Mr Hands and Mr Wright- man both denied that it would be necessary to provide water for the subdivision if it were given to Mr Alan Mr quoted a section of the agreement between the town and Mr and Mrs which stated that in return for them giving the town a site for its sewage disposal plant town wa ter would be provided for their subdivision as soon as it was available for residences outside the community A reference was made to an earlier request for water Howard Morton for property on Davis Drive West Mr Morton who was in the audience was asked to speak by Mr Wright man I didnt ask to speak on this matter said Mr Morton even though my name had been men tioned in discussions I am rising to speak now because I have been asked to do so Mr Morton explained that the Bell Telephone Co had ap proached Morton Bros the real estate company regarding land on Davis Drive West and indi cated that if they were to build there town water would be needed Mr Morton said that he checked with the engineer on the matter offering to help defray costs of bringing water to the property I did not make this applica tion in writing as I did not think that it was necessary I was told by the engineer that I would he advised when such a proposition was being consider ed he said I have heard no thing more Mr Morton said that he had applied recently for hydro for his Ragle St property and had been refused because tho Hydro commission said it was not econ omical to dig holes at that lime Hera we have one depart ment in town the Hydro com mission deciding that It is not economically to dig holes to provide hydro to a property within the town limits At the same lime another department finds that it is economical to dig Polio Shots This Week For All York School Children Polio shots began in York County this week for the eli gible elementary school child ren Only those
