their beefs about their dogs running loose if I owned a dog Id love to have it run loose so I would not have to clean up after it But why should any taxpayer or any one else who doesnt own a dog have their shrubs and lawns spoiled by peoples dogs I arrive home at fivethirty sometimes later What greets me winter and summer is a cleanup job on my lawns and driveway Dog owners sit by and grin because their dog keeps other dogs off their property and therefore its clean Most Newmarket homes have a yard and a clothesline and I province causes one to wonder as to whether or not the colored people of the present generation are losing the sense of humor which their forebears in such a generous measure Most of us I am sure have ad mired the manner in which our Negro brothers and sisters of past generations have been to laugh at their own mister tunes and personal traits of char acter We have found it help ful ourselves to laugh with them There is a vast difference between laughing at a people and laughing with them In my ministerial experience members of my family and I have been associated with the presentation of minstrel shows in different districts in Ontario dog can have plenty of exercise in its own yard I am not a dog hater as I always owned a dog until I moved to Newmarket My dogs stayed in our own yard and they were always healthy I wonder why dog owners think junior plus his dog are welcome at the neighbors house If he would listen in he would realize junior is destructive enough without a dog After working eight hours six days a week Id like to come home and get dinner without having to clean up my lawns af ter neighbors dogs Thank goodness for a council who believe people who own a dog should look after it them selves A OneTime Dog Owner in such minstrel shows looked upon the presentation of their song and jokes as an instrument of ridicule aimed at our Negro friends Indeed quite the oppo site has been the case When a race or nationality be gins to lose the power to laugh at itself then it is bound to have to face the future with a self- imposed area of ostracism as its lot It is safe to say that most of the jokes made at the expense the Scotch have emanated from the land of the heather The Scots laugh at themselves and we laugh with them The same truth holds with re gard to other nationalities I am convinced that the vast majority of are free from the narrow and weak ness of racial hatred or eve racial ridicule On the other hand we ready to admit that our Negro fellow citizens are the possessors of certain physical spiritual powers which we are white folk might well The Negro has a better than have we The voice of Negro has a tone which th most certainly cannot match There is a depth of spirituality about the Negro spirituals ft
