five days in jail on a common assault charge in Newmarket on Thursday March He appeared before Magistrate O S Defense counsel for Charles told Magistrate that the boy Gerald Burrows was acting like a young hellion and smart alec and that was justified in striking him said Burrows and a friend had plastered his car with snowballs and that one of the shots had struck his 63yearold mother on the side of the head He said he punched Burrows when the boy denied having hit Mrs Minaker and accused her of being a liar Burrows received a cut lip which required three stitches to close and a swollen jaw Earlier reports to the press listed his in juries as left unconscious in the snow with a black eye teeth loosened severe cuts and bruises Passing sentence Magistrate said he sympathized with Minaker as the boys had been unmannerly and provoking He told the boys they were re sponsible for their conduct to other members of society and so could not be excused On the other hand by hitting the Burrows
