Drug Storep BEST WISHES FOR CHRISTMAS m I I J J J There is something about Christmas which is dif ferent from all other seasons of the year There are other periods of goodwill such for example as Easter tide when cards and remembrances are sent through the mail But none can compare with Christmas Being oldfashioned in our outlook we prefer to write Christ mas rather than Xmas Christmas is a strictly family affair If it is pri marily for the children there is no reason at all why the middleaged and the old should not regain old mem ories and sentiments associated with the days when they too were very young The magic of Christmas does in fact restore all these things to most people thus achieving that happy family unity which is the basis of Christian civilization The little gifts that we buy for those we love bring joy not only to the receiver but to the giver In fact it is hard to say which receive the greater pleasure those who give or those who receive The Christmas cards that come through the mail are symbols of good cheer Year by year it seems they become more beautiful in design No artist was ever better employed than when he or she takes Christmas as a subject for creative expression Christmas represents a pause when we cease from contention and argument and so to speak let the world go by We are told to love our enemies Human nature being what it is it is hard to begin to think of loving those who have done or would do us injury But with out any hypocrisy if we have not the power to live up to the divine injunction to its utmost possibilities we can forget our enemies on Christmas Day There are so many better things to remember EDITOR TO HIS READERS At this season of the year take a special pleas ure in expressing to our readers our sincere thanks for their continued support of our newspaper Espe cially are our thanks due to our Aurora readers whose unfailing loyalty has given Aurora News Page a cir culation equal to many weekly newspapers throughout Canada Week by week we have set ourselves the task of keeping the people of Aurora informed on what they have a right to know We have not pandered to cliques or special interests We have defended that which appeared to us to be right and condemned that which we believed to be wrong The continued and increasing support received from readers is solid proof that we are providing a senice to their liking For such loyalty and support we express sincere thanks together with our best wishes for a Very Merry Christmas r Airf I A j At K iJ f ray jryji ji tv going to be the holiday ever of h Aurora Branch No of the Canadian Legion among other important business transacted an important document was read in connection with war claims of prisoners of war It was pointed out that claimants who have not already given notice of their intention to claim must do so on or before December We are not expert judges of windows at least not storewindows but we can say that in our opinion the Aurora merchants have excelled themselves this year It would be invidious on our part to single out this or that display for special mention That must be left to the judges The document stated that the War Claims Commission with the approval of the government of Canada on October 30 But this we can say Here in Aurora are storewindows where the spirit of Christmas is real istically and artistically recre ated At nighttime especially they look very beautiful The new lighting on the main street adds to the beauty of the Christ mas scene Charles Doan would have been proud to see today the town to which he succeeded in giving the name Aurora more than one hundred years ago One outstanding example of Christmas decoration we can mention without offence to any one namely that which patrons may see at the Royal theatre The manager Mr and his charming wife are to be congratulated on the excellence of the decorations which greet visitors as they step into the theatre The ftlovies and TV In the course of the years it may be that TV will prove a strong rival for moviehouses to contend with From what we have heard and read no appre ciable effect has thus far been made on moviehouse attend ances In the broad and varied field of entertainment especial ly in the use of technicolor the moviescreen has a tremendous advantage over the limited area of the TV screen The Royal theatre has been enjoying good houses the man ager tells us Some excellent ROYAL DOORS OPEN DAILY SAT FREE PARKING showings have been made re cently with some equally good ones to come Incidentally the latest estimate we had of the TV sets in Aurora was that they numbered around Santa Parade The Santa parade in Aurora which took place in fine weath er was a great success Among the many industrious workers who planned it and made it a hit Andy Anderson deserves special praise we understand To spon sor such a parade means a lot of time ami hard work and those who undertake it deserve sincere thanks It was a great event for the youngsters especially Clifford Harmon The many friends and rela tives of that old Aurorian Clif ford veteran alderman of the city council will be interested to hear that he has again been reelected by a vote of over 3000 With less than percent of the voters of that city using their franchise Osh did not display much inter est in its civic problems There was no mayoral contest Mayor Jack receiving an acclamation Incidentally it has been a good election year for Ontario mayors only two in the province suffering defeat name ly at Brantford and at Peter borough Others were either acclaimed or won the elections Merry Christinas To all our readers a Merry Christmas Hope to be with you again before the bells ring in the New Year RECREATION COMM AND TOWN
