nominations and elec tions Speculation runs high as to the many who might seek of fice this year People are talking about Main St the dogs taxi licences as sessments and any number of topics In some instances the speaker takes the opportunity to congratulate the retiring council for their work this year At other times the impression remains that if the speaker were to be elected next year would see a much improved and more efficient municipal government As the time of the nomination meeting approaches more names are put forward- Too often their owners are the last to know of their proposed venture onto the stormy sea of local politics But all the talk interest in school board matters appears to be at low ebb- Humor has it that one of the retiring candidates will not seek re-election- Tomorrow night will tell the tale Doesnt seem to matter where Newmarket people roam they axe always hearing about home Recently when Quarter Master Stuart Mitchell returned to Korea he picked up a St Cath arines newspaper There on the front page was a story about an archery shoot in Newmarket It was great to read some thing about home Stuart wrote his parents Mr and Mrs Ted Mitchell Copies of the Era and Express are being forwarded by them to Stuart who is aboard Huron so heres our op portunity to say hello to him from his friends and relatives at home A week from Saturday on Dec Newmarket will stage its Santa parade under the auspices of the local Chamber of Commerce Many groups are busy with plana for their floats The Legion Ladies auxiliary Newmarket Home and School association have decided to enter floats Hilltop Lunch have indicated that they will also One father called the Era and Express office early this morn ing to say his daughter would ride her horse the parade I wasnt to Contributes For Hospital Expansion Program The Newmarket Lions club de cided to contribute 1000 to the York County hospital fund for an additional wing The club contributed to the Santa Claus parade fund at a dinner meeting on Monday even ing The club members were hosts to a large number of visitors from Lions clubs in the district including Aurora Bradford and Richmond Hill Mayor Joseph Vale was guest speaker of the evening and both Fred Thompson and Moff Cock- burn in introducing the mayor paid glowing tribute for his long service to the town He has been on town council since Mayor Vale nominations for Newmarket council close at tomorrow night Four newcom ers in the field of municipal af fairs have announced that they will definitely stand for election to council They are A Belu- Fred Counter John C Ham ilton and Bert Kent Others are considering but have not an nounced that they will stand Following the close of nomin ations new candidates as well as present members of council who Reconsider Library Plans Hope To See New Building Plans to purchase a residence on Church St for a public lib rary have been changed and a committee of members of the town council public library board and members of the Newmarket Rotary club have recommended the construction of a new build ing for the library At the last meeting of council a resolution was passed to pro vide to the library board for preliminary sketches for a new building The library board has made arrangements to en gage an architect Possible location for the new building discussed by the library board is on Park Ave west of the municipal parking Reporting to council Deputy- Reeve Herbert a mem ber of the special committee said that the committee had discussed MEDAL Sgt Newmarket now in Korea has been awarded the should be pre pared to back such criticism by being ready to offer his services on the said body it elected to see that any apparent evils he resents are corrected T am now in that position and acting upon my convictions am offering myself as a candidate in the coming elections he said I have resided in Newmarket for years and in that period wit nessed many an action of coun cil with which I did not agree This years council however has reached the point beyond ordin ary criticism and tolerance I shall not comment on ccr- because I have no proof of their authenticity However there tain unpleasant rumors reaching is one case my own where I have all the facts necessary to show a runaround given me by the council for the past 11 months during which time I have wit nessed what appears to be defin ite favoritism on the part of cer tain members of council Somebody must stop that I am out to fight and if possible to eliminate the two Joes and what I might think to be a satellite clique in council should think it to be a duty of every voter who might agree with me on this subject not only to vote for me but his circum stances permitting to offer htuv self as my running mate to help to clean out any possible unfair ness and discrimination in our town council I shall give fuller explanations at the nomination meeting he said Frederick James Counter 150 Main St is a new
