sense of integrity iy I came down by bus again this year and had a lovely trip a couple of stopovers on the way to see the sights and do some shopping The highway scenery was grand and we passed through a lot interesting towns and cities Im go ing home by bus too FARES ARE LOW ROUND TRIP JACKSONVILLE MIAMI LOS ANGELES NEW ORLEANS For it has been said that the capping stone of the develop ment of a wholesome personality in children and youth is this sense of integrity that is the acceptance in their own lives of the virtues of honesty sincerity unselfishness goodwill and tol erance We want to find when our children reach maturity that have learned to feel secure within themselves and with others That they have gained self confidence That they are able to take responsi- We want them to know the satisfaction from work and play fairly and well done To the sense of achievement which requires no further re- ward We them to be able to understand themselves and others to be tolerant and open- minded in their thinking and finally to be prepared with strong sound characters for their task as parents of yet an- other generation It is an enormous task ft is frightening in its ties We need help with our problems and so it is to discus sion groups such as vere held at the last two Home and School association meetings that we turn No one can tell us how we arc to handle the daily problems which arise in living in a fam ily Is it not as simple as going to the dictionary looking up a and knowing that the meaning remains consistent to day tomorrow and always when used in that certain sense What would solve the problem today would tomorrow perhaps not help at all No authority on child ante no specialist in family re lationships can know what has taken place in our homes They cannot know the dozens of small crises which arise daily and which unconsciously affect our dealings with our children They do not know of the telephone calls which interrupted our day the clothesline which broke the demands of the how baby and they cannot appreciate why we react to certain situations But we can take- the wisdom of others who have lived longer seen more studied and experi mented in the science of human relationships We can call on their knowledge for longterm guidance If we are prepared for ques tions about sex if we know that most children use shockers tell tall tales then we shall he a little better prepared to face the problem when it arises in our own family Without preparation we may be tempted to do something drastic on the spot The first impulse might be to handle the situation quite differently than if we had been prepared and were able to put a brake on our hasty responses As the old proverb says In quarreling the truth is always lost Group seem to be one way of combining our ex periences and ideas Through such meetings as the Home and School association has held op portunities arc provided for teachers and parents to become better
