Local Principal in Charge University Courses for Canadian Troops Overseas

The following news item appeared on the front page of Monday’s Globe and Mail:

“Switzerland soon may play host to Canadian troops, the British edition of the Canadian Army newspaper, the Maple Leaf, said in a report from Paris.

“The newspaper quoted Major Bud Hoffman, Canadian Army education chief in Paris, as saying he was leaving shortly for Switzerland to lay the groundwork for Canadian participation in Swiss colleges. The dispatch added: ‘ it is believed either Zurich or Geneva universities will be glad to see a small representative group from the Dominion on their rosters.’

“United States troops have been using Switzerland as an educational and leave centre for months.”

Lindsay citizens will be interested to know that Lieut.-Colonel T.H. Eberlee, Principal of the Collegiate Institute, who is on leave of absence from his scholastic duties here, is in charge of all the university courses now being conducted on the Continent of Canadian troops.

Col. Eberlee now holds the appointment of Deputy Director of Education in the Canadian Army Overseas and has been successful in operating courses for servicemen in universities in France, Belgium, Holland, Denmark. He is also in charge of the arrangements for the conduct of the Rehabilitation Training Schools in Holland and numerous other activities which are providing a wealth of knowledge for Canadian troops.

Since the above was written, word has been received that Lieut.-Colonel Eberlee has been promoted to the rank of full Colonel.
