Now is your chance and you can skip the month-long election campaign process to boot. Just apply. The Halton District School Board is filling its vacant Halton Hills trustee position through an application process, after current trustee Gillian Tuck Kutarna stepped down earlier in May to focus on full-time employment. Application deadline is May 28. The successful applicant would be asked to take over the position after the school board approves its budget, scheduled to happen in mid June. Until that time, Tuck Kutarna will remain the trustee for the north Halton community. On Wednesday (May 16), school board trustees voted to fill the vacancy by way of an application and interview process. A town-wide by-election in Halton Hills would cost approximately $100,000. Applicants must be Canadian citizens, 18 or older and must be residents of Halton Region. For details, visit the board's website at www.hdsb.ca. The Town planted 300 white pine and white spruce seedlings at Joshua Valley Park last Saturday, in partnership with Holcim Canada and the Joshua's Creek Residents' Association. "Support from our corporate partners is key to maintaining and building Oakville's tree canopy," said Oakville's Parks and Open Space Director Chris Mark. "With a canopy cover target of 40 per cent by 2057, every tree counts and we applaud Holcim for providing these trees and participating in this event." The Town's Forestry staff is also building and enhancing Oakville's tree canopy through the bi-annual treatment of more than 6,000 public ash trees to protect them from the Emerald Ash Borer and replacement initiatives for trees killed by the bug. "Oakville is renowned for its abundance of beautiful trees and fantastic green spaces," said Barb Smith, corporate social responsibility co-ordinator at Holcim Canada Inc.'s Mississauga Cement Plant. "We're thrilled to have had the opportunity to partner with the Town of Oakville on this tree planting event," said Smith, noting it fits the company's goal of being responsible corporate citizens in the local community and round out Earth month activities." Red pine seedlings were also planted last Saturday at Iroquois Shoreline Woods Park. $ 9 30 .99 $12.99 10 0" PLANT TERS 33-0338. Reg 19.99 SELEC CTED 1 GAL LLO ON EVERGR REENS % OFF 33-3553/3802.
