Lunch Money Tuesday is coming May 29 This World Hunger Day on Tuesday, May 29, the Halton-based Food for Life will be at local GO Transit stations during morning rush hour asking riders to help feed the hungry. The fourth annual Lunch Money Tuesday will run from 6-9 a.m. at the Oakville, and Bronte GO stations. For every dollar raised, Food for Life delivers $8 worth of food to those in need. In operation since 1995, Food for Life collects fresh surplus food, such as baked goods, fruit, vegetables, meat and diary, from local grocery stores restaurants and the corporate food sector seven days a week. The charity then delivers the food to more than 40 community agencies in Oakville, Mississauga, Burlington, Hamilton and the Halton Region. In addition, Food for Life has established 36 outreach programs in housing complexes and low-income neighbourhoods in Oakville, Burlington, Milton and Acton -- helping more than 20,000 people last year by delivering one million pounds (more than 400,000 kilograms) of food.
