Police report two girls were walking home from school on Feb. 2 and Feb. 6, in the area of Monks Passage and Oak Meadow Road in Oakville, when they allegedly saw a man following them. Oakville man is facing harassment charges The man was driving a white Cadillac and appeared to be photographing the two girls, who were able to obtain the licence plate of the vehicle, according to police. After an investigation, police charged 34-year-old Mark Garces with two counts of criminal harassment. The accused was held for a bail hearing. Halton police are encouraging parents and caregivers to discuss personal safety with their children. Notices from police about the incident and safety tips were distributed to northwest Oakville-area public schools. Police are reminding together · at any age, it is always safer to walk with a buddy · not to play in remote areas of parks or take shortcuts through wooded areas · not to loiter on the way to or from school · not to get into anyone's car or go anywhere with a person -- even if it's someone they know -- unless a parent or caregiver has given them permission · to advise an adult of suspicious strangers right away · to always notify parents those caring for children to review safety rules with the children and reminding them: · to play safe and play of where they are and where they are going.
