Halton Police say Wellington County OPP arrested the Georgetown man in Wingham late Tuesday. Acting Halton Police Staff Sergeant Jeff Foster said there was a physical altercation between a mother, a father and their son as they were driving near Temple Road and Ewing Street in Georgetown about 7 p.m. Tuesday. The son pulled "a small pocketknife" on his father, causing superficial cuts, police said. When the small SUV stopped, the son jumped into the driver's seat and roared away, smashing into several parked cars. Foster said the parents called police and paramedics, but the couple did not require medical treatment. About 10 minutes later, the THURSDAY, April 7, 2011 Man in custody after wild chase ends in Wingham man ran the family car off the road, smashing through a sign for the village of Glen Williams and plunging into a steep ditch in the area of Confederation Street and Wildwood Road. With the vehicle immobilized, the man, who was apparently not injured, confronted a woman nearby who was walking to her own car. Grabbing the keys, the man took her 2009 Black Toyota Venza and sped away. Police said no weapon was used in the carjacking and the woman was not injured. A Halton Police canine officer spotted the Venza a few minutes later, heading westbound on Highway 7 into Acton. He chased it for a short distance but backed off around Queen Street and Churchill Road for safety reasons. The big SUV was last seen speeding northbound on Main Street in Acton and Halton Police warned Wellington County OPP it was coming their way. See POLICE, pg. 3 Halton Police and Wellington OPP officers were led on a wild chase that began in Georgetown and ended in Wingham Tuesday night. According to police, a 20-year-old Georgetown man crashed his parents' car (above and right) in Glen Williams, taking out the village sign, after pulling a knife on his father. The man then hijacked the car of a stranger and led police on a more than hour-long chase before finally being apprehended in Wingham. Photos by David Ritchie 7e HANDLE ALL INSURANCE work.
