Town supports Vassallo's ll ' efforts ff Continued from page 1 Woman faces f 88 charges h of f fraud f d A 21-year-old Oakville woman is facing 88 criminal charges in connection with the alleged theft of thousands of dollars from the bank accounts of victims in Toronto, Halton, York and Peel. According to Toronto police, between March and September, the victims in this case received unsolicited e-mails from people claiming to represent financial institutions needing to verify the victims' personal information including passwords, personal identification numbers, SINs and driver's licence numbers. Once this information was provided, the suspect(s) would create counterfeit identification, which was then used to impersonate the account holders at the financial institutions where they were able to obtain replacement debit cards and gain full access to the victims' accounts. The suspect(s) would then empty the accounts of funds, which totalled thousands of dollars, said police. On Tuesday, Oct. 25, Toronto police arrested Vanessa Farrell, 21, of Oakville. Farrell has been charged with 22 counts of identity fraud, 18 counts of fraud over $5,000, four counts of fraud under $5,000, 22 counts of possession of proceeds of crime, and 22 counts of expose counterfeit mark. Police believe there may be more victims. Police also want to remind the public that financial institutions do not send unsolicited e-mails. 3 · Wednesday, November 9, 2011 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com Rick's lifelong vision of a healthier and more inclusive world," said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton.
