After the crash, investigators surrounded a black SUV that had come to rest in the ditch, a bullet hole clearly visible in its rear passenger side door. They also taped off a section of the AMC 24 Theatre parking lot at 2081 Winston Park Dr. A female passenger in the black SUV sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the shoulder. She was apprehended and taken to Hamilton General Hospital. The male driver fled the scene, but was arrested a short time later. One police officer received injuries to his hand during the incident. He was not shot. The SIU has assigned seven investigators and four forensic investigators to probe the circumstances of the incident. The arm's-length agency, which investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault, has also designated five of the officers involved in the incident as subject officers and five others as witness officers. Halton police are refusing to confirm why they were looking for the two vehicles, what happened to the second vehicle or if the two people apprehended Saturday have been charged. Helena Golebiowska, 69, and Fenia Arendacz, 76, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that happened around 3 p.m. The Mississauga women were in the back seat of the Protege. Golebiowska was ejected from the vehicle. Golebiowska's brother-in-law, Jan Giemza, 68, was driving the Protege while his wife, Marianna, 66, Golebiowska's sister, was in the front passenger seat. Both are in a Toronto trauma centre with lifethreatening injuries. The driver of the Jeep suffered minor injuries. Police say it's too early to determine whether charges will be laid. The Jeep was northbound on Hurontario St. and collided with the Protege as the car turned left onto The Queensway, said witnesses.
