He said in future years, he can see other four or five NLL teams using it for their training camps. He knows the facility will need more than the NLL teams in order to sustain it, though. He said he has a couple of ten- ants lined up. He said it could also pro- vide playing space for ball hockey leagues. More importantly, he said it will give young players a place to develop their skills year-round. It will give kids who choose lacrosse as their number one sport the opportu- nity to play year-round, he said. Really, playing in a league, you have a three- month window. But for kids who this is their love, their passion, without this facility, they dont have that opportunity (to play year-round). Michael Varanesi, president of the Oakville Minor Lacrosse Association, sees many benefits to having such a facility. Currently, the OMLA holds tryouts for rep teams and assessments for house league players a couple of weeks before the season begins. Having a facility dedicated to lacrosse will allow the organization to expand those timelines. The fact that it is a year-round facility will allow us to expand our programs for skills and new player development, Varanesi said. If we have a clinic to intro- duce new players, this will allow us to do it much earlier. Already the third largest lacrosse organi- zation in Ontario with 920 players in boys box and field lacrosse and girls field lacrosse, Varanesi said having a lacrosse-only facility can only help to promote the game locally. It will create more awareness for the sport, he said. Having a facility associated with the Toronto Rock, its only going to generate more interest in the sport.
