interclub competition Feb 3 at the Mississauga Figure Skating Club The following skaters placed first in their categories and will be making the trip to Mississauga Lesley Watson ladles junior Punchless Peewee power play Lost power play opportunities hurt the Halton Hurricane Major at the 20th Annual Inter national Hockey Tournament held in Oshawa Nov 30Dec 2 Halton consistently doubled the opponents power play chances but were unable to capitalize as they won one tied one and lost one game Twelve teams competed with the winner of each of the three divisions plus the fourth best team advancing Each game had one MVP award with Halton win ning two of three possible awards Halton Hurricanes Toronto Red Wings 2 Played Nov 30 at 9 30 am this game pitted the second place teams in both the AAA and Central AAA leagues Halton lacked the teamwork necessary in the first two periods to take advantage of numerous opportunities Phillip Sandersons goal scored at 36 of the first period held as Haltons lone marker for almost the entire game as they trailed 2 1 A flood between second and third gave coach Bert Bertoli the opportunity to change things around The fans had given up hope as the play was whistled down twice in the games last fif teen seconds With scant seconds remaining Wader shot the puck at the Red Wing goalie from the comer The puck took a funny turn hit the goalie and bounced in Game MVP went to Haltons goalie Kevin Wilson who was spectacular in net 17 difficult shots Wilsons heroics were assisted by the solid check of Tim Diardichuk and Mark Halton Hurricanes Nepean Raiders Haltons goalie Steve Heinz played two games in this tourna ment In the first two periods he had to stay sharp with few shots on net while shutting out an Raider team in the third for his second shutout of the The Hurricanes made no mistake in using their power play opportunities with four power play markers Scoring were Paul Bobby Wilson Scott and Marc Boucher Iain Macintosh netted tne game winner with the remaining goals credited to Sandifer and Bertoli Sanderson Boucher Crawford Loader and Haydar assisted Chicago Young Americans Halton Hurricanes 2 On Saturday the Hurricanes drove back to Oshawa for an ear ly 8 a game only to find the Red Wings out of the tournament courtesy of Chicago by a score of Down 30 early in the third Haltons power play line came on the ice determined to score A quick pass from Loader to the point a blast from Kuhns stick and Bertolis tip started a com ebackatl4 34 With a two man advantage narrowed the gap to 32 at the 7 mark as Sanderson pop ped one in from Loader and Less than two minutes later a short handed marker for Chicago sealed Haltons fate Goal Line The Hurricanes have the week off then head to Chinguacpusy December
