Glenda Hughes I was quite taken aback earlier this week when one of my clients asked me to do a market evaluation for her and then called back later to check to see if there was any charge for this service I was really shocked as I thought that after finding dozens of market evaluation certificates in the mailbox every year that by now everyone knew that this was part of our service However it also gave me insight into just how vulnerable we are to things we hear things we read and see and dont take the time to clarify Perhaps it is an opportune time to use this column to tell you what real estate sales people are qualified to do and will do for you at no cost other than hoping for your business at some time in the near or dis tant future As mentioned above we will do market evaluations or market analysis for you which is showing you what is currently on the market that compares to your home what has sold recently on the market that is comparable and show you how we arrive at a figure that is suitable for your home to be listed at We have a multitude of information in our computers and our sales books and then we draw on our experience as necessary We also do financing arrangements and finance figuring to see what you can afford and what a financial institution will lend you and even track down private mortgages if it is possible We can do all the leg work for you in this stressful area of buying a home and make it as painless as possible and it is part of our service if you wish it When your home is on the market we take care of promoting it in which ever way we think is suitable for your home in particular we take care of arranging appointments for showings we prepare offers and we help negotiate your sale After that we take care of forwarding all your paperwork to your lawyer of choice after all the conditions are met so that your lawyer can draft up your legal paperwork and everything will run smoothly on closing day When you are purchasing a home we will run you around to as many homes to view as you think are necessary until you find that perfect home Again we will draft your offer present it and negotiate to try and put smiles on ail faces Then the paperwork is again forwarded to the lawyers and we do all the running These are the basic things we do but there are a multitude of ex tras we do such as advise our clients about decorating help them through separation periods take care of their animals when they are away pick up their kids if in a jam arrange for lawn care while vendors are on holidays and some of us have been known to plant flowers for our clients paint decks and clear out basements Need I say that we are most diversified You will never see an invoice for this service all we request is our normal commission and we dont get that unless a sold sign goes on the lawn So when you want to know what we do for our money it is spelt SERVICE We give it willingly without strings and with a smile MVANS 10 or Cashback CK own compost bin to provide a valuable amend ment to your soil high in humus content and rich in plant nutrients An added benefit is that you reduce your garbage output while you build up your soil Almost any type of organic material may be used vines of peas and beans pea pods soft hedge clippings lawn mowings tea leaves egg shells banana and orange peelings coffee grounds cat litter fluff from the vacuum cleaner old straw fallen leaves even well soaked newspapers inverted sod weeds preferably before setting seed all except very woody material and diseased plants Build a bottomless box with three fixed sides screwed or bolted together and a front of loose boards that can be slipped into position as the box is filled A fourfoot cube will provide capacity for up to one ton or two cubic yards of finished compost About every eight inches of vegetable matter sprinkle a thin layer of soil and one of the following activators 1 inch manure or 3 seaweed fish emulsion blood andor bone meal leaves or one of the numerous commercial activators on the market Occasional lurnmg is helpful but not essential to the composting process To catch rainwater keep the top of the heap concave A partially shaded location with good drainage is ideal for the moist spongy con sistency of a good compost heap If material is very dry water it before putting the activator on the heap Build up your heap as vegetable waste becomes available When the heap is ready four to six months the outside will not have rotted yet and can be cut off with a spade and set aside to provide the beginning of your next composting adventure The inside of the heap should be dark brown sweet smelling and alive with valuable microorganisms and trace elements to enrich soil for your trees shrubs flowers and vegetables If you are not ready to add this precious adjunct to your garden cover the heap to prevent leaching out of valuable nutrients Apply compost at a rate of about one pail full per square yard an nually as a mulch forked into the top ten inches of soil before planting The tilth with be improved soil will not dry out as readily and there will be sufficient humus to encourage young plant growth More information on composting in future articles Next time we will look at composting the lazy way Why not start now You can make a difference NOW OPEN in Georgetown Serving Hills Brampton
