Carpet Barn located at the corner of Guelph Street and Mill Street Halton Hills council learned day night The Carpet Barn wants the pro- pertv so that it can relocate its building just east of its current location Part of the lot is already owned the Carpet Barn The business has made a proposal to the town calling for the demolition of the ex isting Carpet Barn building and the construction of a new four storey building which would allow for commercial space on the ground floor and apartments on the up per floors The Carpet Barn needs the town owned property to pro vide a sufficient number of parking spaces for the proposed size of the new building But McNally Construction also owns a nearby piece of land on Mill Street David McNally of Construction wrote in a letter that appeared before council Monday that if the town is considering sell ing or leasing the piece of land question it should offer the land to all interested people As taxpayers in Georgetown we McNally Construction are asking for an equal opportunity to enter into negotiations with the town to either purchase or lease this piece of land Council after an in camera ses sion where no public or press are allowed to be present for the debate decided to include the possible sale of the town property to the Carpet Barn as part of its development application As well councillors decided to write Construction asking for clarification on the intentions of Construction for the town property Mr McNally said in an interview before the council meeting he is just asking the town for a fair op portunity The construction company is in in buying the property because if it ever decides to develop its Mill Street property the town owned land could be used for parking and for a Guelph Street ac cess to its property And sufficient available parking spaces and easy access to a site are two important requirements the town wants before it will allow a development project to happen said Mr Mr McNally said he had already contacted Al Watt coowner of the Carpet Barn about working together on the issue of the proper Mr Watt confirmed this Mon day that both agreed the two com panys could work together But neither of the two would provide any more specifics about their con versation ENJOY A DAY Hole MM Putt Golf Driving flange Sport Gift Shoppe Kiddie Carts Gift House Bakery Frozen Yogurt
