celebrating the anniversary of the Georgetown Theatre and the anniversary of the opening of the Halton Hills Library and Cultural Centre Why you may ask la It so important to acknowledge the Centre opening after all has only been four years But to four years you must add at lost another ten years of pi aim fund raising meetings and n hard work by a number of individuals and groups all volunteers that resulted n the Centre opening The Hills Arts Council had two ma n objectives when it was established in 1978 to promote the arts centre In this area By this time Georgetown Little Theatre hod done a lot of investigating into the possibilities of a theatre A great deal or credit must be given to the first president of the Arts Council Ralph With dogged determination he pushed the Town Council for a feasibility study to be done I can well remember sitting in Hex Hcslop s office with Pat Beer Derek John Roe Betsy Corn well Ralph and other representatives from interested parties listening to the various possibilities for a library cultural centre and wondering if this whole idea was Just pie in the sky But The feasibility study completed in May 1079 strongly Indicated the need for a cultural centre with a theatre for plays and muskdance performances an art gallery and public meeting areas After fifteen sites were examined in detail by consultants two options for development were recommended the present library site at the corner of Church and Market Streets the municipally owned land adjacent to the Gordon Alcott Arena The former was decided upon primarily
