old Brian Campbell officially began his duties in town last Tuesday An Oakville native who recently completed his first year in the General Arts course at Sheridan College Brian was the choice of Parks and Recreation program committee members Peter Marks and Barry Inscoe to head up a new summer recreational program that will provide activity for citizens of all ages In the past summer ac tivities in Acton have been mostly confined to children While in Brian was involved In youth council work He helped organize a dropIn centre and arranged to have prominent guest speakers attend youth workshops Brian was one of the organizers of Oakville Trailer a drug crisis and treat centre Youth centre One of Brian chief responsibilities will be a youth centre which he expects will open approximately June In theY MC A building Plans call for the centre to be open to youth four nights a week Wednesday and Thursday from 7 until midnight and Friday and Saturday from 12 noon until volunteered to help get the building ready for the opening of the youth centre Firm believer A firm believer that experience is the best teacher Brian would like to see youths get activities going on with operation of the youth centre Diane Hollands of the Addiction Research foundation has also moved to town for the summer Miss Hollands also a Sheridan student intends to spend a great deal of her tune at the youth centre The children playground program will operate at the two local parks each weekday after noon beginning the first week of July Mary Ann and a staff of playground leaders will assist Brian with this phase of the summer program Miss has four years experience as a playground leader Activities will likely be much the same as previous years but Brian will be open to any new ideas Jut will Improve the program expect to have a weekly session with leaders to discuss any changes or to hear new ideas he says Swimming leuons Swimming lessons will be provided for both children and adults by a trained instructor year old Wendy Bell of Lessons for adults will be held at the Fairy beach Wednesday Thursday and Friday mornings Children lessons will be held at the wading pool in
